George Medal

This website has been commissioned by Mrs MT Kerr (Kerr-Keen) in memory of her father George Frederick William Keen GM, George Henry Leach GM, and an unknown soldier who, along with military personnel and members of the Fire Service, attended to a burning munitions train in Tongham, Surrey on 22 August 1940.

Mavis Thelma Keen (Mrs MT Kerr) and Brian Keen, daughter and son of George, were placed with Dr. Barnardo’s. Subsequent to her marriage in January 1953 Mavis spent many years in Scotland before returning to Surrey. It is understood that Mavis and Brian have a half-sister, Doris B Keen, Croydon 1924... They have never met. It is also known that George had at least four sisters, Florence, Daisy, Louisa, Selina and one brother Charles, however no search has been made beyond 1905 and it is possible that he may have had more siblings.

Appeal

These pages include a signed colour photograph of George Keen, Scoutmaster 9th Farnham (Tongham). We would like to trace any other image or data relating to the events of 22 August 1940, or that period in Tongham. Please take the time to read the biography, email admin@pcworkspace.co.uk if you have information.

Many thanks.
